altAccording to a study done in 2007 by a University of Oregon’s economics professor, William Harbaugh, people donate to charity because the act of doing so provides them with a good feeling. The question here is, is it more charitable to give your money, or your time?
While I can see the good in doing both, or either one, most Charitable organizations focus strongly on donations, especially if they’re non-profit.

Question: When is it appropriate to donate your time or when is it more appropriate to donate your money?

Answer: It all depends on the type of person you are. There are people who donate their time because they have no money and people who donate their money because they have no time...

Though if you’re capable of doing both, I think the feeling of satisfaction would be a lot richer, since you can interact with others and learn things.
An article posted in a Harvard Business Review suggested that charities profit more from people donating their time rather than their money.

And that makes sense, because an organization can hire a staff member for $10.00 an hour to spend 2 hours a day licking envelopes and running to the post office, someone can volunteer to do that same job, saving the organization money and getting the work done.

I ran into an article online in which a woman said she donated money to an organization before, and

“didn’t get to see where the money went.”

And that’s her reason for thinking that time is more valuable than money. I think if you don’t have money to donate you should donate your time. Tedious things like mailing envelopes, making copies, and faxing can save a lot of time and money to any organization.
