altIf a charitable organization is designed to help people in need, with hundreds of millions of dollars in public donations, and withholds those funds instead of releasing them to provide aid, would you give them $564 million dollars, knowing that only $154 million will actually be distributed to the needy? I wouldn’t! The Red Cross has been under major suspicion, and being one of the top charity organizations in this country sure means you get a lot of support from the public.

Though what happens when $564 million dollars in donations came in after 9/11 and only $154 million is distributed? People get pissed!...

It’s morally wrong for a charity such as The Red Cross to only do the work they do if there is something in it for them. It is reported that the chairmen for the Red Cross are paid $150,000 per year and the reports claim that some of these staff members have no disaster relief experience whatsoever.

In other charities such as The Salvation Army, Commissioner Todd Bassett received a salary of just $13,000 and housing for managing the organizations 2 billion dollars. Some reports claim that Red Cross President Marsha Evans receives a $450,000 salary. Many people around the world have speculated the Government received many complaints through the past decade that have recently surfaced, and have shown proof that much of the money obtained through donations is not properly managed or distributed.

The Red Cross however manages to appeal to people by using sympathy for those in need and is taking advantage of those who do not know much about the organization’s past.

In recent years, The Red Cross launched a mobile feature to acquire donations. The concept was very simple, you text one word to a short digit number, and through your cell phone bill you donate $10 to the Haiti Earthquake relief fund. Not only was the concept simple but very effective and successful. Over $5,000,000 were collected in donations through this texting campaign. Even though the Red Cross successfully raised millions of dollars to provide relief there, a reporter who traveled to Haiti and interviewed people in the camps found that most of them were not getting any aid at all. Some camps only received water and a peanut butter granola bar.

Many bloggers have taken on this injustice by asking people to donate their money to organizations whose main purpose is providing genuine aid, rather than fattening their paychecks. Before you give to charitable organizations, research who you give your money to, even if it’s just $10.00, because $10 can add up to $5,000,000 and many fraudulent, and even criminal organizations never do what they say they’re going to do with your generous support.
