Responsibility for many people means accepting that you alone are accountable for your own life. Though there are many youth throughout the world who are showing huge responsibility as human beings by helping out those who are less fortunate.
Elaine Truong, 16 from California started World to Form, a project focused on promoting self expression to trafficked youth through music, art therapy and education. 50% of 27,000,000 people who are enslaved are youth under the age of 18, Elaine considers that to be a big problem. World to Form has provided 110 art supplies and instruments to formerly trafficked youth. She hopes that art therapy will help them heal the scars and bring them hope for a better future.
People like Elaine redefine ‘responsibility’ by lending a hand to help kids who were thrown in tragedy. Another youth making a difference is 14-year-old Roger Black. Roger received a grant from Do Something to create 750 earthquake kits for Whittier Elementary School in Salt Lake City, Utah, which is right next to a major fault line, and has had several earthquakes last year. He went on to create an action plan, putting the kits together and giving them to kids during a school assembly along with demonstrating useful survival tips for staying safe during an earthquake.
The National Coalition recognizes that kids like these are people who make a big difference in a troubled world. These young people are putting many adults to shame in the area of human compassion and understanding, and deserve a “thumbs up” from the Coalition for their wonderful work in community service.
